About NEON WATERS

MICROPLASTIC IS EVERYWHERE

in our water, animals, food & even our own bodies

IT'S DANGEROUS BUT INVISIBLE

the particles are too small to be visible, but can cause great harm

WE MADE IT VISIBLE

by showing flowers with plasic particles inside them glow in the dark

Plastic pollution, especially in the oceans is one of the dangerous problems created by humans.

The growing amount of plastic waste from landfills and rivers travels into the oceans of this world where the sun dissolves it into tiny particles, so small and almost invisible that it ends up in our drinking water without us noticing.

Our aim for this project is to make microplastic in the water visible through photos to raise awareness about this problem and the fact that even when we don't see it, plastic pollution is not only affecting some flish far away, but also us in our daily lifes.

Microplastic particles in water, food and animals are usually invisible due to their size, however scientists can make them visible, as they glow in bright colours under UV light.

The project combines art and science in order to display the negative impact of microplastic in the world. The images of flowers glowing in the dark  may look beautiful, but they do not look natural . They look strange and otherwordly, if we imagine this is how our flowers, vegetables and food would always look, we would think twice wether they might not be poisonous.

Especially knowing that under normal light you cannot know how much plasic there is in the water you drink or the food you eat, the photos aim to deliver uncomfortable feelings to the audience once they are familiar with the problem. Think about the seafood you eat at home glowing in bright neon green. Would you still want to eat those glowing shrimp?
